2006 Beneficiaries
Powercor- Children’s Helicopter: $100,000
Powercor Children’s Helicopter is a life saving air ambulance service that transports seriously ill infants and mother’s from regional centers to the Royal Children’s hospital. The service was in a grim financial state when it contacted TSWF for help, with a kick start of $100,000 donation from TSWF, and now through other foundations coming on board including the Victorian Government, Powercor can run this wonderful service without fear of being grounded. Since May 2006, TSWF has directly help save over 70 children’s lives.
Sydney Children’s Hospital- Randwick: $50,000
On 17 January 2006, TSWF Chairman, Shane Warne joined former Wallaby great and Humpty Dumpty patron, Phil Kearns, donating jointly to the trauma fellowship at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick.
Named ‘The Shane Warne Foundation/Humpty Trauma Fellowship’, the funds enabled a specialised pediatric doctor to undertake training and research into pediatric trauma, which is the single largest cause of death in the 1 to 15 year age group in Australia. The recipient of the fellowship works with Trauma Services developing new strategies to improve the treatment of severely injured children at Sydney Children’s Hospital from NSW and beyond.
The Sydney Children’s Hospital Trauma Service provides specialised medical attention from resuscitation through to rehabilitation of victims of paediatric trauma.
“The fellowship will bring new knowledge into the treatment and rehabilitation of children who have been injured and assist in providing injury prevention strategies” said Professor Les White, Executive Director of Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick.
Sophia Raso- The Shane Warne Foundation teams up with Advanced Hair
In 2006, The Shane Warne Foundation teamed up with Advanced Hair Studio’s to bring a smile to the face of a young lady, Sophia Raso. In the year 2000 Sophia was diagnosed with a tumour and was operated on later that year. Unfortunately, Sophia lost her hair due to the treatment she received. In most cases, patients have been able to re-grow their hair, however in Sophia’s case it never happened. Advanced Hair Studio’s specialise in hair replacement . The Shane Warne Foundation contacted Advanced Hair and told them of this special little girl’s plight and they were more than willing to help her out in time for her School Formal. Sophia had problems with wearing normal wigs, so to avoid this Advanced Hair introduced Sophia to a procedure called Hair Replacement, which looks completely natural. Our sincere thanks go out to Advanced Hair Studio’s for teaming up with us to put a smile on Sophia’s face….and what a beautiful smile it is!
